Introducing Sissy

in Sissy

SissySissy was found wandering around in Huntington Station, NY, in early May. Lucky for her she was found by a real dog lover who took her home and took care of her while searching for her owner. No one ever claimed Sissy, so now she’s in foster care and looking for a new home.

I had the absolute pleasure of fostering Sissy over the Memorial Day weekend while her foster mom was away. We fell in LOVE! Sissy is a sweetheart. She is very quiet and mellow with a gentle personality. She loves her walks, laying on her back for naps and behind the ear scratches. She also likes to relax by the window and enjoy the breeze. By Monday afternoon, she had carved a place in our hearts by curling up next to us for a good rub. She will be spayed this week and after recovery will then be available for adoption. She is currently fostered with 2 Blue Tick Coon Hounds, 12 year old child and an indoor/outdoor cat. She seems to fit in just as well with a full house as with a quiet home as an only dog- she’s so adaptable!

Hi Elizabeth. We don’t fly our dogs cargo, so you’d have to be willing to come to NYC and meet one of our dogs and take him/her home, but SURE you can still adopt! :)

Alternatively, we have Shiba rescue contacts in California and other western states that have dogs available.

She’s very cute, and her personality sounds perfect! Can you give me her approximate size (length, height and weight)?

thoroughly enjoyed your description of Sissy and would like to know if she’s still available?

Yes! Sissy is still available for adoption and still very cute :) She is about 21 lbs., about 15.5 inches in height and 17.5 inches from shoulder to base of her tail.

Sissy sounds great! I was just wondering how she does when she is alone. I am looking for a dog, but as I work during the day, she would be “alone” with 2 cats – though she’d get long walks in the am and pm. Does she entertain herself well, or does she need more companionship?

Sissy is very good alone – she sometimes doesn’t even want to go out when I get home! she is a big lazy butt when she is inside. then when she goes out side, especially to the dog park, she bounds and pounces and sprints like a madman!

Hi! Sissy sounds like a wonderful dog! I am a teacher looking to adopt a Shiba and was wondering if she is still available? I live in Westchester, so I am in the area. Looking forward to your response! Thank you!

We just submitted an adoption application via Shiba Rescue and are also very interested in Sissy. She sounds like a perfect match for our family. Our 10 year old Shiba just died in June and we miss her very much. We would love to welcome another sweet Shiba into our family. Our 11 year old Golden Retriever also missies her play buddy. We live in Wilmington, DE. Thanks for your consideration!

Hello, My husband and I are looking to adopt a dog, and we were wondering what predominant breed is Sissy? Thank you! Laura

zennia August 7, 2007 at 8:58 PM

Hi Laura, Thanks so much for your comment/question. Sissy is a Shiba Inu. In fact, all of our dogs are either full or mixed Shiba Inu :)

If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please go to http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ and fill out an application. We’d love to hear from you!
