Hi Lorraine,

Roxy is being fostered in an apartment now in Brooklyn. My Manhattan apartment is about the same size as yours and I have TWO Shibas. :) They pretty much chill and relax in the apartment except for the occasional game of fetch or mad dash around the place. I take them out for lots of exercise outdoors though. We go out for about an hour every morning and an hour in the evening and then 10 or 15 minute walk right before bed. We do more on the weekends. The key with Shibas is to keep the MINDS active though, not just their bodies. They are smart, smart, SMART and if you don't keep them mentally stimulated, they can be trouble. Playdates, training classes, walks in different places, interesting new toys... all ways to keep them happily busy.

If you are interested in adopting Roxy, you can download an adoption application from our website, complete it and fax it in. The application is linked from this page: http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/

I love her! She is so adorable. I live in a small apt. in Manhattan (~800sq.feet), I wouldn't want to limit her space, has she lived in small apt. before? How much exercise does she need?

She seems really sweet and smart!

Hi Julie,

We expose our foster dogs to as many people and animals as possible within the normal course of their life in foster care. If we have a potential adopter with children and the dog hasn't been tested with kids, then we find a way to do so.

We accept applications all the time. There's a whole application process - home visits and reference checks - that has to be completed, so by the time we're done with that Roxy could be ready to go!

What, if any, types of evaluations are done while Roxy is in foster care? Will she be evaluated for her behavior towards children, particularly younger children? We currently have a male Shiba pup in the home and really want to have a female. How soon do you accept applications for new arrivals?
