Long distance adoptions are difficult, but not impossible. We don't mind the dog being out of our area as long as the adopter passes our approval process. We would find someone in your area to conduct a home visit. Then after your application is approved, you'd need to come to NYC to meet the dog you are interested in. We have a 24 hour waiting period after that meeting, so you'd need to stick around for a day to complete the adoption. Alternatively, we could bring the dog to you for the meeting and WE would have to stick around for 24 hours and then complete the adoption. We don't mind doing it, but you would need to cover our travel expenses in addition to the adoption donation. That being said...our adoption process starts when an adoption application is submitted. (An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ ) After we review an application, we check references and conduct a home visit. After the home visit, if we have a dog that you are interested in and we think is a good match, then we set up a time/place for you to meet the dog. We look forward to hearing from you! Hi Allie

I have fallen in love with Shiba Inus. They seem to be the just opposite of Pugs which is the breed that kindly kept company with me for over 25years. Our Baby Zoe died at the age of 18 and has been gone for 2 years now. I will miss her for the rest of my life but it would be nice to share some quality time with a lovely dog like Foxy. I also board a foreign student who has one of the upstairs rooms. I have had dogs in the past; my last dog, a shelter dog I adopted when he was 2, died at age 14, four years ago. Since then I have travelled and lived abroad but have now returned permanently to Brooklyn. I fell in love with Foxy, especially after reading more about her. Would it be possible to meet her.
