12/03 Ginger Update

Ginger’s Foster Mom Michele has given us a fantastic update: ‘She is so sweet…Ginger is such a great dog!’

Ginger would do best, as an only dog, in a forever home that is familiar with the breed and Shibas’ need for structure and routine.

She is very affectionate and snugly. It seems like her favorite thing in the whole world is belly rubs and plenty of them! Ginger also enjoys her walks and time outside very much. She loves to play with her toys on her own or fetch with humans as well. This lovebug also likes to nuzzle up next to you on the couch.

Ginger is housebroken, leash trained, crate trained, spayed and up to date on her shots. She is very well behaved when home alone- what a good girl!

  1. Does Ginger like riding in the car?? Also, being spayed so late in life, will there be any long term effects of this??
Although we have not had a Shiba before, we feel that this is a great dog!! We had to put our Jack Russell down (161/2 years old) about a year ago and need companionship in another pet. Shiba’s behavior are not that far different than the Jack’s. Also interested in Foxy.

  2. Hi Andrew- Thanks for your post!

Regarding spaying- since there are so many differing expert opinions regarding spaying and timing that we can’t really answer that question authoritatively.

Ginger is actually great in the car. She will look out the window watching the sights or curl up in your lap and sleep. She’s also good in the crate/kennel in the car.

Our adoption process starts when an adoption application is submitted. (An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ ) After we review an application, we check references and conduct a home visit. After the home visit, if we have a dog that you are interested in and we think is a good match, then we set up a time/place for you to meet the dog.

We look forward to seeing your application!

  3. Hi,
    Is Ginger still available?

After submitting an application, what is the typical time frameto hear a response/receive approval for adoption?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi Linda

Thanks for your post! Upon review of your adoption application, we then check your references and conduct a home visit.

Please keep in mind that we’re an all volunteer organization, so a number of things (how busy we are, whether we have a dog at the moment that might be a good match for your family, etc.), can affect the length of time the process may take.

After the home visit, if we have a dog that you are interested in and we think is a good match, then we set up a time/place for you to meet the dog.

Of course you can always contact us with additional questions as well. Thanks for your interest!

  5. Hi. How much does Ginger wieght?

  6. I believe she is about 25 lbs. I don’t have a scale, but I compared her to one of my other Shibas who was weighed at the vet this past sat. He’s 30 lbs. and Ginger is a few pounds lighter.

  7. Hi. I was wondering if Ginger is still available. We’ve been interested in adopting a Shiba Inu and Ginger caught are eye. Can you please let me know as soon as possible.
    Thank you very much
