Bailey is about 2 yrs old and is a tri-color male shiba. He is a very friendly and playful dog, good with strangers, affectionate, gentle, and allows himself to be handled by people. He needs a new home though because he can be stubborn and has been known to become aggressive when he has an item of high value, such as a treat. His current owners are expecting a baby and are unable to give Bailey the proper training he would need.
He’s an athletic dog, loves to play, loves to go for walks, and does interact well with children. It is recommended that he go to a home with older children and someone who is able to work with Bailey.
Bailey is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows commands such as sit, no, and off. He could use more work on with leash walking as he tends to pull and could learn some manners. He will jump on people and sometimes plays too rough with other dogs.

He’s beautiful! How large is he and how does he get along with other shibas (specifically females)?
Where is Bailey located?
I’m very interested in adopting another shiba and Bailey looks beautiful. I have a 14 year old male that I adopted 11 years ago. Kori is very mellow and mostly sleeps, but he does enjoy the company of other dogs if they are not aggressive. Do you think he would be OK with a senior male?
When I got Kori he had the same issues that Bailey has it sounds like and I took him to a great trainer in Vermont named Kevin Behan – he did a wonderful job with him. he actually has a book out called Natural Dog Training which is very interesting. Please let me know your thoughts.
When would this beautiful dog become available?
I just currently became a foster home with your organization in the hopes that i eventually obtain the experience needed to adopt a shiba from you guys. I hope that Bailey would be available for adoption and that i can request him, great looking dog.
it does not appear that this “issue” are major ones, when do you think he may be ready for adoption?
All of our dogs are in foster care in private homes, so appointments to meet them have to be arranged in advance. If you are interested in meeting Bailey, please complete an adoption application. Thanks!
Hi Jenna,
We’ve met before at Central Park and also at the Soho meet. Alex and I sent a donation for the help of Bea and Rusty’s vet bills – I really respect what you are doing, thank you. I just faxed the application to you to meet Bailey – I’m not sure how my dog will be, but he seems to really enjoy other dogs now that he is older (14). We’ll see what happens. Thanks again-
Best,
Sam
Bailey is good with other dogs his age and activity level. He can be a little pushy with older dogs. He is fine with males and females. He is average size for a male shiba, around 27 pounds and about 15 inches at the shoulders.
Hi – I am also very interested in Bailey and I will fax my application first thing tomorrow morning. My 12-year old Shiba passed away last October and I am interested in adopting another Shiba. We also adopted a German Shepherd last November, so I am looking for a Shiba that would get along with her. She is also 2-years old. She does well with other dogs and would love to have a playmate. Thanks for considering us.
Great, I sent in an application over a month ago and I’m about to begin fostering with NYCshibarescue (looks like Prince) but I do want to adopt another shiba. Since Bailey probably won’t be available for some time, would it be possible to adopt him after I am fostering or how does that situation normally work?
Brianne and Jose,
Fostering for NYCSR does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt a specific dog but we will do everything we can to match you with the best dog for you and your lifestyle/family. Please send in an adoption application for the dog you are interested in even though you are already fostering for us, so that we can consider you.
Bailey is adorable…that face looks so innocent. He sounds like he’s a very sweet boy.
Our 14 year old black & tan shiba passed away last fall. We adopted him when he was 2 years old and his personality sounds similar to Bailey.
Is Bailey still available for adoption?
Hi Rob, Bailey is still available. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and our adoption coordinator will be in touch!
Is bailey still available? We are in Florida so it would be an interstate event.
We have 2 male shibas, one mixed, one is about 5 and one is about 7, and both are rescues. Holly Didden
Hi Holly,
Bailey is still available. If you’re interested, please fill out the application and our adoption coordinator will be in touch!
We saw Bailey and was interested in him. We had a Shiba Inu that got sick and the vet said that he had to be put down. Would it be possible to let us know if Bailey is still available.
Is Bailey still available for a home? We have an Akita and would love to adopt a smaler breed to go along…. oursis sweetand raised from puppyhood! Also not good with kids but we don’t have any.
