Tammy, Brutus’s foster mom, told us he’s doing very very well and has learned the routines that she’s been establishing with her. He knows to sit before he’s fed without being asked anymore, he knows the walking routes and some key words like “home,” “run,” and “car.” If she asks him “Do you want to go home?” He will begin walking back to the house. If she tells him to “run” he will pick up his pace and jog a little. When she says a sentence with the word “car” in it, his ears perk and he immediately wants to go to her car and jump in. He’s also mastered the walk with Tammy and will walk next to her and stop if she stops. This is great to know, he’s such a good boy.
Brutus sometimes shows great interest in tv and will become very curious if he hears a dog or wolf. She told us they were watching Animal Planet and a pack of wolves were howling. This immediately grabbed his attention and he scooted to the tv, placed his paws onto the stand and looked at the screen. It was really funny and cute. He didn’t go wild and start barking or try to knock anything down. He’s a gentle boy. Even when he meets other dogs, he’s extremely polite and will walk away if another dog is acting too excited or unstable.
Everywhere Tammy takes him, he gets compliments on his good looks, great manners, and gentle nature. He’s a star! Recently, they went to a shopping area and the store allowed her to take Brutus inside where people just gushed over what a cute, fox-like dog he is, and how gentle and loving he seems. Her son takes Brutus to the dog park and he always seems more interested in the dogs that aren’t shibas than the ones that are, and mostly big dogs. Maybe he wants to meet new friends and try and figure out why they are all taller, bigger, and droolier.
Brutus does not like to go outside when it rains and would rather use some newspaper that she has set up in the basement for him on rainy days. She is working with him to not be nervous of the rain and to make sure he’s 100% housebroken. One of the funny things Brutus does is he scratches a pole they have in the basement like a cat stretching up to scratch a tree. Now, we always knew Shibas can be cat-like but we’re wondering now if Brutus is a cat in dog’s clothing! We wonder if he’ll be playing with catnip stuffed toys and purring soon!
Keep checking back to see how Brutus is doing.
