in Brutus

Brutus’ foster Mom has nothing but wonderful things to say about Brutus:

Brutus is ADORABLE, LOVABLE, SWEET AND GENTLE. Even when I give him food, he takes it from me so gently.

I know Brutus has mannerisms of a cat, but he also has the memory of an elephant!! My neighbors, a retired couple, who live 3 doors away are crazy about Brutus and Brutus is crazy about them. The other day we went for a walk and he pulled me right toward their house and walked up to the front door and scratched on it for them to let him in. When they didn’t answer, he sat down by the door. Brutus was in their house only 1 time and had made himself at home by running upstairs and hopping on the bed and trying to play with their grandchild’s toys which he found a few favorites and wanted to bring home.

When I come home from work everyday, he always comes down to greet me and I always hold him in a bear hug for a few minutes and he doesn’t even mind or try to squirm out of my arms. He loves the attention.

I am beginning to read Brutus’ body language. The other night I was up late watching a movie in the basement and Brutus was upstairs sleeping on my son’s bed and when I came up at 2:00am, he was still sleeping and he ended up the whole night with my son, which he always sleeps with me. The next morning Brutus woke up and immediately came to my room and hopped on the bed and was so happy to see me he walked across my stomach and put his head in my face and then lifted his front right paw and then his left front paw and his ears were down and he was more happy than usual to see me as if to say “I’m so glad you are back”, which i never left – i was only in the basement.

When Brutus first came, whenever he saw a rabbit, bird or squirrel he used to pull me hard and try and go after it. Now, all he does is look at it and walk away – I guess he realizes he would never be able to catch it.

He is a little more playful with his ball and string toy. When he is in the car, if there is a piece of paper around, he will put his paw on it and rip it apart. Now my kids can say “the dog ate my homework”!!

Sometimes Brutus will give me a certain look as if he is trying to tell me something. He will be perfectly still with his head tilted and then all of a sudden he will let out a different tone of bark as if to say, “I want to go out or I’m hungry.

This morning when I was walking Brutus, we were on our way home and he stopped by the door of my car and looked at me as if to say “are we going in the car now?” I could have read his face. It was so funny. Sometimes when I want him to go out and he doesn’t want to, I try to trick him and say “do you want to go in the car?” and I put on his leash and try and walk him in the neighborhood, but he pulls me back immediately to the car as if to say “I thought you said we were going in the car, not for a walk?”

The other day he was in my bathroom sitting still and staring at the garbage so I figured there was food in there. I went over to look
to see what was inside and sure enough, there was a half eaten banana. Brutus stood there so patiently and still just staring at it.

Brutus is a wonderful dog and his foster family loves him very much.
