Introducing Snow White

Snow white is a cute, silly, 5 month old female cream shiba who is affectionate, curious, and is having a ball playing with her foster brother who is also a shiba. She was born in June and weighs about 12 lbs. Her foster family has told us that Snow White is friendly with everyone and loves to play. Sometimes she’s afraid of large dogs that she passes on the street when she’s out for a walk but overall, she likes other dogs and gets along well with them.

Snow White is learning how to be crate-trained. She doesn’t like it and will bark, throw a puppy tantrum, and want to be anywhere but there but she’s learning to calm down and take naps in it when she can’t be supervised or is left alone in the house. She’s also excited to meet people and jumps up when meeting them. One of her favorite things to do is to go for walks. She’s energetic and has a lot of puppy energy to burn. Her foster family takes her out for walks 4 times a day and she’s learning to be housebroken.

Sometimes when they open the front door of their apartment she runs out but comes back when they call her, however, true to her shiba nature she would probably love to explore and dart about if they didn’t live in a building and their door was just to the street. Everything is a game to her, is new, and fun, and worth exploring. Anyone who adopts her should be aware of some of the common shiba traits and be prepared to have a rambunctious, sweet, and curious puppy. She’s a great girl and is very happy in her foster home.

  2. Hello,
I own an apartment in NYC and am very interested in adopting Snow White. I am not familiar with the adoption processes but have owned and am familiar with dogs before.
Please let me know if Snow White is available for adoption.
    Thank you so much,
    Paul

    • Our adoption process starts when an adoption application is submitted. (An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ ) Applications are reviewed in chronological order based on date received. Depending on the initial review, we check references and conduct a home visit. After your application is approved, then we can arrange for you to meet one of our foster dogs!

All of our dogs stay in foster care for a minimum of 10 days before they are made available for adoption. Then they have to have a clean bill of health, be spayed/neutered and be up to date on all their vaccinations and preventatives. Snow White won’t be available until after she has been spayed which will be a month or so from now. However, we are taking adoption applications and they are reviewed as they are received, so if you are interested it is best to get your application in now.

(An application can be downloaded here http://nycshibarescue.org/forms/NYCSRAdoptionApplication.pdf ) Applications are reviewed in chronological order based on date received. Depending on the initial review, we check references and conduct a home visit. After the home visit, if we have a dog that you are interested in and we think is a good match, then we set up a time/place for you to meet the dog. Following the meeting, there is a 24 hour waiting period during which all parties decide if the adoption should move forward.
