Smokey’s January Update

Smokey is having a great time at his foster home with foster siblings and mom, Jenna. He’s in great shape and his fur and skin have improved radically. He’s adorable and loves being snuggled. When Smokey wants attention and some affection, he will hop up and ask for it with a look on his face that melts Jenna’s heart. She told us he’s irresistible and loves to be around people.

Smokey also likes play with the other dogs in the house. His best buddy is her shiba, Suzuki but he can also play by himself and likes to chase and catch bouncy balls. His favorite game is to take a ball, drop it off the couch, chase it, catch it, and then carry it back to the couch and do it again. He doesn’t play with toys with people though. He prefers to play alone with another dog if there’s a toy involved. He wants pets, snuggles, and love from people.

Smokey is learning his basic commands and sits and stays very well. He’s also walking nicer on a leash as the days go by. The other day Smokey tried to jump up on Jenna’s counter and sometimes tries to steal food from tables and counters. It was the first time he ever did that and she’s teaching him to not do it. Smokey likes food and eats very well. He also gets treats when he comes in from being outside and when she leaves.

He’s a great dog who is loving, fun, and is looking for his furever home. Will it be yours?

  1. Hi we are interested in Smokey. My husband and I live in Mass, we have two female Shiba’s. Lady 14 Bella 12. We did
have a male Elvis, he passed away in 2010 at the age of 18. Bella we have had since she was 6 weeks. Lady and Elvis (her parents) came to live with us a year later. Lady was 3 and Elvis was 7. Lady is deaf but otherwise in good health, Bella has no medical problems. Let me know if Smokey is still available or if you have another Male. 3 females would be too much.

    Thank you
    Pam

    • Smokey is ‘Adoption Pending’ – his adoption will be finalized in the next few days.

May we suggest you submit an adoption application? Applications are reviewed in chronological order based on date received. Depending on the initial review, we check references and conduct a home visit. After the home visit, if we have a dog that you are interested in and we think is a good match, then we set up a time/place for you to meet the dog. Following the meeting, there is a 24 hour waiting period during which all parties decide if the adoption should move forward.

I would love to adopt Smokey. He’d get along well with my Shiba – Suki. His best buddy Suzuki almost has the same name! Crossing my fingers that we get the chance.

    • Have you already submitted an application to adopt? Even though it will not be possible to adopt Smokey (his adoption will be finalized in the next few days), we can work to find you the perfect match.
