Our Foster Boy Mojo Is Very Sick

MojoIt’s been quite a while since we’ve posted an update for Mojo. Unfortunately, that is because his status changes from day-to-day. It seems like each time I try to write a post about him, he takes a turn for the worse, and I have to start over.

See, the thing is, Mojo is a very sick boy. ๐Ÿ™ When he came into foster care three months ago, we had no idea anything was wrong… he was a bouncy, energetic Shiba boy. About a month later, he started getting sick. He was lethargic and not eating as well as before. Loooonnnnng story short, Mojo is diabetic – with complications. We can’t seem to get him stabilized. He’ll be stable for a few days and then he’ll crash. He’ll spend some time at the hospital, they’ll increase his insulin, he’ll go home, and a few days later, he’ll crash again. Lather, rinse, repeat… over and over. Over the last two months, Mojo’s good days have become less frequent, and most recently he is spending more time in the hospital than he is at home.

His foster dad has been AMAZING… taking such good care of him, giving him his injections, making sure he eats, driving him to the hospital over and over, listening to everything the vets say, keeping us updated, and doing everything that he can to make Mojo healthy again.

The good news – if you can call it that – is that the vets have ruled out cancer, pancreatitis, and other diseases that could be interfering with Mojo’s ability to metabolize insulin. The bad news is that they haven’t found anything for us to FIX to make Mojo better. Poor Mojo just keeps getting more sick and more annoyed about being stuck with needles every day. ๐Ÿ™

As of yesterday, we are trying a different version/brand of insulin. If this one doesn’t work, there is one other type that we can try. If THAT doesn’t work… we may be out of options to make Mojo better. It breaks our collective hearts to consider it, but we know we can’t prolong his suffering if there’s no hope of him getting well and enjoying life again.

So, please, send all the strong, healing vibes you can to Mojo and to his foster dad Skyler as well. They really need them.

  1. That really breaks my heart. I just hope he can get better soon. He is lucky to have such a great foster dad though.

  2. Me too… This story breaks my heart. Mojo has an amazing foster dad who tries his best to take care of poor shiba.
I really hope one of insulin works and Mojo gets better.

  3. Praying for mojo – and foster dad, my heart breaks for you both… I just lost my shiba to cancer after 15 years. The pain in her eyes broke my heart more than losing her did.

I am so sorry to hear this about Mojo, my heart dropped. Im a vet tech from maine who has a special love for shiba inus. And i have been searching for the perfect one for 2 years. Ive been following Mojo for 2 1/2 months and to read this…wow. It made me tear up. He will be in my prayers. I know sometimes rare (treateable) deseases can cause odd problems that wouldnt be thought of in general. I hope its the same for Mojo, a easy fix. I really truly hope so.

I am praying for Mojo and his Dad! Reading this story put tears in my eyes but I hope that one of the new regimens will work for this sweet, young man. I lost my sweet Shiba named Samantha to cancer over the holidays at 11.5 y.o.

    Always in my thoughts!
