Shay’s First Meetup

Shayna went to her first meetup with me and Snickers today. The NYC Shiba Inus and Their Human Companions had a joint meetup with The Beagle Pack at a brand new daycare place in Chelsea called D is for Doggy. There were about 40 people there and the dogs all had a great time. Shayna had a few moments of being overwhelmed, but she found me and asked to be picked up and everything was fine. She is such a great dog… very affectionate and trusting of her humans.

I don’t have any pictures from the meetup yet, but I do have this funny photo that shows how exhausted Shay was after a cab ride to Chelsea, an almost 3 hour meetup, and a mile walk home.

Shay passed out in Snick

  1. That is one TIRED baby! Glad she had a good time. :)

  2. She sounds like a perfect NYC dog! If she’s as friendly with people as you say, I’d like to talk to you guys about her. We won’t be ready to adopt untill around February. It’s just two of us. We have no kids and no
    other dogs.

Are you still giving her up?

  3. That is a good question! I’m trying hard to decide that right now. I really love her and I’m thinking seriously about adopting her. It may not be very practical of me to do so though, so I’m really weighing the pros and cons and thinking it through.

If you’re interested in her, you should submit an application. (An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ ) After we review an application, we check references and conduct a home visit. I can’t guarantee Shay will still be available in February, but I advise not waiting before sending in your application, since we process them in chronological order. Also, if Shayna is adopted but we have your application on file, we can work on matching you up with another Shiba that will be right for you.

  4. How local is local? I’m a NYC born and raised woman living in Kingston RI and I have my NY sensibilities in tact.

Yesterday I had to euthanize my Shiba, Buck, who has been an integral part of my life for the last 15 years (even he came from NYC). While I never ever will be able to replace that wonderful old boy, I need another Shiba and Shayna looks like a real cutie.

If you would consider me for adopting, I will complete the necessary paperwork and could go into the city to meet and greet.

    Thanks,
    Anne

  5. hey i think this looks like a great puppy! i really would like 2 look at her!I have a question in the family is a adult a dog and a bunny and a kid and me is that ok?

  6. Hi,

I would like to meet Shayna. Would you please contact me?

    Paul

  7. What exactly constitutes “Local”? I live in Southern CT and commute to work in the city almost every day so my definition of local may be a little skewed.

  8. Hi, I am Kathryn i have a couple of ?s it is Feb. 1st and i am wondering if shayna is still at the shelter i am interested in this breed they seem like a great size and from the descriptoin of her i think she would be a great part of are family. please contact me ASAP if you can

  9. I think I’ve replied to everyone by email, but just to be sure…

Anne - local is close enough for me to follow-up on her in person at some point.

Bennie - She would definitely try to kill the bunny.

Paul - We only schedule meetings after an application has been approved. An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/

Nan - Same answer as Anne.

Kathryn - All of our dogs are in private foster homes, not in a shelter. Shayna is still available for adoption at this time. If you’re interested in meeting her, please complete an adoption application.

  10. Hi it is kathryn again i have one other ? i have a puppy he is not that young but he is almost 6 months he is great and loves other dogs he has been nutared and just want another dog to play with do you think that shayna would be unhappy in a house with another dog that young

  11. aawww shayna is so adorable!

my fiancee and i are looking into shiba inu ownership, and shayna looks and sounds like such a doll.

my fiancee and i live outside hartford, which would probably be too far to be considered for shayna’s adoption, as it’s not a local adoption…. which breaks our hearts a little bit.

you’re fortunate to have a dog like her in your company for as long as you have. best of luck finding a forever home that will love her as much as she deserves

  12. Kathryn - Since Shayna was given to us due to being anxious around puppies, I wouldn’t want her to go to a home with a puppy.

Julieanna - She IS adorable. I love her SOOOOO much. If I had the time to give her the training and affection that she deserves, I would keep her. She’s a real sweetie and deserves the very, very best.

I think we may have found her new family. We’ll know in a week or two. I will add an updated entry when she is adopted.
