Courtesy Listings for Area Owners
The following dogs are listed as a courtesy and are not in the care of NYC Shiba Rescue. If you are interested in adopting a courtesy listed dog please follow the instructions in each listing for contacting the current owner or caretaker. All negotiations regarding the adoption will be carried out privately between you and the current owner/caretaker.
Since we cannot guarantee any listed Shiba, prospective owners are encouraged to obtain as much information as possible before adoption to determine if a particular dog is the right match for your particular circumstances and environment. Listing caretakers are also encouraged to gather as much information as possible regarding potential forever homes and are encouraged to use this generic adoption application to aid in that process.
Simba
Simba
Simba is a 5 year old neutered cream male weighing about 35 pounds. Most of the time Simba is very relaxed and enjoys spending time snuggled up on the couch. He loves back rubs, sunbathing, car rides and playing in the fenced yard. Simba is very friendly and is good with people of all ages. He also has been raised with cats and will play and sleep with them. He does well with other dogs his size, but doesn’t seem to like bigger dogs. If Simba were to live with another dog, the new owner would need to be aware that he does exhibit food aggression toward other dogs and it would be necessary to separate at feeding time.
Simba seems to have seasonal allergies, but has been controlled with an anti-histamine. Simba very much likes his people and will do best in a suburban home with a family that will include him in their activities. If you would love to share your life with Simba, contact Jennifer at 203-587-0124 or email j.ramos7981@yahoo.com.
Roy
Roy
Roy is a sweet 3 year old Neutered red male. He might be a bit scared to meet you at first, but once he gets to know you he will lay down by your feet and ask for belly rubs. Roy is a very lovable dog and loves the attention he gets from people. He never had a problem around children until a 3 year old unexpectedly teased Roy and pulled his tail. Now, Roy barks at this boy whenever he is around and has started to bark at other young children.
Roy currently lives with another dog, but he really isn’t too comfortable with other dogs. He may be able to live with another dog that is laid back, but probably wouldn’t do good with a high energy dog looking to play all the time. Roy currently lives in the city, but he has become afraid of loud and sudden noises. Therefore the everyday noises of the city has made it difficult to walk him around the neighborhood and he would probably do much better in a suburban environment where he can relax.
Roy knows several basic commands, is house-broken and crate trained. Overall he is in good physical condition but sometimes limps from an old injury he received when playing with the other resident dog. If you might have a place in your heart for Roy to call home, please contact Susan at 917-283-7491 or 347-271-6406.
Ruby
Ruby
Ruby is a 2 year old Shiba mix that was adopted from a different rescue that had no room to take her back in. Ruby is spayed and up to date on all her vaccines and just visited the vet for her annual checkup a few weeks ago. Ruby is a very lovable with her family which includes 2 children (13 and 10), but not so loving of the other dogs and cat in the household. Ruby knows some basic commands which includes ringing a bell when she needs to go outside to potty. Ruby can be fearful in situations that she is unfamiliar with and people she does not know. Overall Ruby is a sweet dog that just needs time to adjust to a new environment and people.
If you would be willing to give Ruby her forever home, please contact Angela at apenera@twcny.rr.com
Otis
Otis is a 6 yr old red and white male shiba who needs a new home because his owner can no longer take care of him. He’s a big boy, weighing about 40 lbs. but is healthy overall. He likes car rides, is housebroken, crate-trained, and doesn’t mind meeting new people but can be tense if he feels threatened. Otis guards his food as well. He would need a home with no other animals and no small children. He would also need an owner who is experienced with dogs and familiar with food possession.
Otis likes to be brushed but doesn’t like baths or nail trimmings. He’s also fairly quiet but will bark if another dog is barking. One of Otis’s favorite places to nap is the couch and he’s a good couch potato! Otis knows basic commands such as sit, down, off, no, come, and leave.
If you are interested in meeting Otis, please contact Vicki at 717-364-4434 or email.
