The following dogs are listed as a courtesy and are not in the care of NYC Shiba Rescue. If you are interested in adopting a courtesy listed dog please follow the instructions in each listing for contacting the current owner or caretaker. All negotiations regarding the adoption will be carried out privately between you and the current owner/caretaker.
Since we cannot guarantee any listed Shiba, prospective owners are encouraged to obtain as much information as possible before adoption to determine if a particular dog is the right match for your particular circumstances and environment. Listing caretakers are also encouraged to gather as much information as possible regarding potential forever homes and are encouraged to use our adoption application to aid in that process.
Sasha ~ Babylon, NY
Sasha is a 3 year old, tri-color, female shiba who weighs about 17 lbs and needs a new forever home. She’s spayed, up-to-date with vaccines, and is spayed. She doesn’t get along with the other dog in the house and doesn’t like to be left alone for long hours at time. Overall, she’s a friendly and quiet dog who loves to go for walks and rides in the car. Sasha is friendly with towards adults, older children, and has lived with cats. She is also welcoming to meeting new people.
She gets along with dogs at the dog park but for some reason her and the other dog don’t seem to do well together. Sasha will run if she gets off leash, as most shibas will, so someone would have to make sure she did not bolt out the door or slip off her leash. She doesn’t like to have her nails clipped but doesn’t mind being bathed as long the water isn’t too cold. Noises do not seem to bother her and she’s fine with new situations.
Sasha is housebroken, leash-trained, and knows some basic commands. She’s a great dog overall but needs a home where the people are around more.

Sherri ~ Orange County, CT
Sherri is a 7 yr old female, spayed, red and white shiba. She’s about 42 lbs. and is crate-trained, housebroken, and up-to-date with vaccines. Her owners are moving and unable to take her with them. She likes to investigate the yard and loves going for walks. She knows her name and will come when called but she’s not had any formal dog training.
Sherri gets along with other dogs and lived with a dog for most of her life. She also seems to like cats and has lived with several of them. She is also very good with children, teens, and adults. Overall, she’s a great dog and needs new forever home. When she meets new people she may be shy but if someone in the house is with her, and assures her the new person is ok, she will be fine. She is easily frightened by loud noises and sometimes hides. She also can be a little nervous in general and may scurry away if you try to clip her nails or give her a bath.
One of the things that makes her special is that she sometimes has seizures, but they only seem to happen about 2 to 4 times a year. If she’s kept on a good exercise routine the seizures do not appear often. She’s a great dog and loves being around people. She gets excited and greets her owners when they come home and likes to sit near them in the evenings and relax. Sherri is a family pet and would do great in a house with children, other pets, and one that has time to her the attention she needs.
