Adopted!

08/19 Emmie Update

Our sweet girl Emmie has now been placed into a new foster home. Our Intake Director, Michele, has taken Emmie into her pack to work with her on socialization skills. Emmie doesn’t really know how to ’speak’ dog. Currently, upon coming into contact with other dogs on walks, she is not able to communicate the anxiety she feels around them. Her outlet now is to bark at them and sometimes acts as she will attack- she has fear aggression. Our goal is to work with her until she gets to the point where she is not nervous or scared around other dogs. In time she will learn how to behave with them and maybe even learn to enjoy their company! Luckily, Emmie is both smart and loyal to humans. Her intelligence and willingness to please will surely make her a great & successful student. We’ll have more updates on her progress soon!

07/30 Emmie Update

Emmie has been busy learning! She now is used to her leash and rarely pulls except when she sees other dogs on walks- something she’s working on however. She also now does not give any problems when going in her crate. Her initial separation anxiety has also disappeared as well. She rather not be alone but at this point does not bark after her foster parents leave their home. Her foster mom is still working on her jumping up on them when they come home (she’s just so happy to see them!), which she has been improving with as well.

Foster mom Lisa says, ‘She appears more relaxed on walks & especially at home. Her playfulness has emerged & she very much enjoys playing tug-of-war.’ She is not aggressive with toys at all. Lisa also reports, Emmie ‘is happy & warm. She wags her tail when greeting…and when she knows we’re going for a walk. She welcomes being petted, especially on her tummy…She is very intelligent, learning commands & routines very quickly.’

Emmie has had her vet check, and in the words of our vet, ‘She’s beautiful and perfect!’ Emmie is now ready for her new forever home.

Introducing Emmie

emmie

Emmie is a very cute 3 year old spayed girl who is about 30 pounds. Emmie was originally found on the steps of a church in Flushing, Queens. She was muzzled and her front paws were duct taped. After being put into foster care upstate and then adopted, Emmie was then returned to rescue upstate after her adopted family could not take care of her and their young family. Right now, Emmie is in foster care with NYCSR.

Emmie’s foster mom says she’s very smart! She’s learned the ropes and bonded within her foster home very quickly. She’s also a really sweet affectionate shiba. She is eating well and has learned to like her crate. Emmie was having some issues with separation anxiety which her foster mom has been working on as well with great strides having been made. She is also working on further training with Emmie and getting her more comfortable around other dogs on walks.

Emmie would do really well as an only child in an experienced dog owner’s home. She’s very loyal and just needs time and dedication to continue her progress.
