As of today, Dylan has been adopted into a FABULOUS Shiba family and renamed Tetsu.

Cimon and Jack first contacted us in July 2007. They had two Shibas at the time – Yoshi and Yuki – who had been adopted from NESRA when it was still around. Their third Shiba, Saki, had passed away and they were ready to welcome a new Shiba into their family. In October 2007, they adopted Lightening (now known as Aki) from us.

Since then they have been staunch supporters of NYCSR -> donating, volunteering their time, and fostering. Recently, they agreed to foster Dylan for us and shortly thereafter decided he needed to stay forever. Here’s a photo taken today when his adoption was finalized. This is Cimon, Yoshi, Tetsu (fka Dylan), Yuki, and Aki (fka Lightening).

One of our volunteers, Michele, and her husband adopted 2 shibas from NYCSR and gave us an update on their furry friends as well.
The two cream colored shibas were adopted from us. The one on the left is Ginger and the right is Nami. The red shibas are Happy, top left, and Shabu.

Nami was their first foster and they fell for him. He’s a mushy dog who sometimes was easily frightened and at times can be grumpy. But he adjusted and fit very well in their house. Ginger was their second foster and for a while did not always get along with Shabu and Nami. She would play with the other two shibas but at night and when no one was home she was kept separate to avoid any problems. However, she got along great with Michele and her husband.

It took some time but Ginger now spends all her time with her shiba siblings and loves everyone. She’s also lost weight and is doing wonderfully!

As Michele put it:
“We’ve had many foster’s come and go over the last few years. It’s always hard to give them up, but knowing they are going to a wonderful forever home makes it easier to let them go. I stay in touch with the families who have adopted the dogs I have fostered.”

This past January they were lucky enough to take in another red boy. His name is Happy. He fit in almost immediately with their 3 shibas. They all get along well for the most part. A little scuffle here and there, but they know each other’s boundaries. Happy is our littlest guy. He’s a big mush and a lap dog. He has tons of energy and out-plays all the others. All four of them have become big mushy dogs and are very affectionate.

“I am thankful every day to NYC Shiba Rescue, the wonderful people I have met through them and of course for my wonderful babies who I love so much. The rescue can always use more foster homes. It is a very rewarding experience and helps to save the lives of many Shibas in need.”

We’re so happy to know that Ginger and Nami have such a great home and lots of siblings to play with!

Recently, we heard from Fuji’s new owner – Maria – who reports that Fuji and her cat, Mojave, are amazing but also a handful. “They aren’t exactly the best of friends, but they’ve gotten used to and accepted each other.”

She also hopes to make it Shiba meetups in the summer and sent us this pic.

Tonight I transported Roxy from her dogsitting foster, Angela, back to her foster mom Phoebe who’s back from vacation. I just could not help but snap some shots of Roxy being so cute and well behaved- Enjoy!

Autumn’s foster mom Jenn has great progress to report, ‘Autumn is wonderful. She is completely crate trained now and is wonderful on a leash. She still tries to play by mouthing at arms and legs but easily stops when offered a toy to chew on instead. She loves tug of war and will chase a ball for hours. She is such a joy.’

This beautiful girl’s name is Autumn. She is a Shiba-mix, who was found as a stray in the Bronx. We have recently placed her into a NYCSR foster home. Autumn is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped and house broken. She’s currently about 50 lbs.

She’s about a year old and is still displaying many puppy traits. She loves to play and run and get lots of attention. She also gets along very well with other dogs, adults and kids too. She’s currently being crate trained and is working on both her commands and more leash training.

Foster mom Jenn, says ‘She… doesn’t chew on anything, and calms down fairly quickly and easily when she comes into the house. She likes playing and being outside… I don’t see any type of seperation issues, she just a lovable dog and likes to be close to her person when they are around. All in all she is a very sweet dog…always ready to give a kiss or snuggle up (and of course play)’.

Foster Mom Alicia writes:

Coia is a very spirited, good natured and straightforward. She has an independent way about her and can sometimes be aloof toward strangers. This is actually great in NYC because we encounter many people everyday and if I stop to talk I know she is not going to jump all over them or bark. Conversely, she is very polite and happy to greet anyone she knows! She is incredibly smart and is learning the rules of the house everyday. She is also very clean! She meticulously grooms herself like a cat and does not like when he food falls out of the bowl when eating.

Many people in my building have pets [and she interacts] with them in passing everyday and during her walks outside. When she really likes another dog and wants to play, she will lay flat on the ground and wait for them to approach us. She has grown really fond of Pomeranian, Kai, who lives in my building and she is great friends with a Yorkie who lives across the street.

It looks like Alicia will be failing Fostering 101 as she has grown very attached to Coia and will be adopting her.

Maria fell in love with Fuji from the very beginning. As of tonight, she’s no longer her FOSTER mom. Now she’s her FOREVER mom.
