Mr. Squeakers is happy, healthy, and is showing more and more the playful side of himself. He’s also been protective of his foster mom who has been recovering from a surgery. He sleeps with her and makes sure nothing bad is happening. She told us that the day she came home, he sniffed her and seemed to understand that she wasn’t well.

Since she’s been recovering, Mr. Squeakers hasn’t had his usual super long walks and so has been playing more in the house. He’s energetic and requires someone who can take him for long walks, jogs, and play with him regularly. He’s still doing well and is having fun with his foster family but is very sensitive to changes.

Mr. Squeakers has been in his foster home for 4 months and his foster mom told us that he’s doing great! Any behavior problems and quirks that he had have subsided and he’s gotten into a good routine and loves their cat, Molly. They play by running around the house and the cat will turn and look at Squeakers, then zoom off again.

He’s definitely calmed down and meets new people with no problems now. His foster mom had a lot of people over to watch the Kentucky Derby and Squeakers did very well. He even ended up in the center of the room doing silly tricks and entertaining everyone. This is great news and we’re so happy he’s come out of his shell and has the confidence to say hello to new people with no problems.

Squeakers still seems to think that his crate might be a negative place when he’s placed in it during the day. It may trigger to him that the family is leaving, and he still doesn’t like it but when they let him out he’s happy, gives kisses, and then zooms around. They are still working on this so that he understands the crate is his “bedroom” and it’s ok to hang out in there during the day.

Mr. Squeakers has been neutered and is healing up quite nicely. His foster parents are watching his left back leg. When he goes down steps fast he doesn’t use it. When he goes to get his stitches taken out, we will have the vet look at his paw/leg.

Mr. Squeakers is very playful and a lot of fun. He’s gotten better on his leash – he’s not pulling so much. He is much improved with guests coming to their home. If he is picked up, he can greet the guest eye ball to eye ball. They scratch his head between the ears and then he goes on the floor.

His foster parents tried leaving him on the glass enclosed porch a few times but he’s still having anxiety and destructive issues. He is now back to the crate and they will try again soon. Hopefully he can be left out in a room without getting destructive when alone.

He is getting less treats right now. Trying to use more praise – less food. He seems to be eating his dinner completely as they cut down the treats. They will also start doing more training and repremands soon and want plenty of treats to reward/correct his behavior.

Squeakers has been doing well in his foster home. He’s about 14 lbs now and had some anxiety when he first moved to his foster home. Sometimes he’d have an accident in his crate but it seems like it may not be a regular thing. His foster family are trying to see if they notice a pattern with that.

Otherwise, they describe him as a sweet and energetic loving dog. He has made friends with a few other dogs, his best friend is a golden retriever and he’s also very good greeting people on his walks. In the house Squeakers seems to be more on-guard about people entering and gets very very defensive. He has growled and shown his teeth. His foster family has crated him when people come over so he has his “safe space” but for some reason Squeakers does not like when people come over to visit. They have tried having their friends offer him a treat but he won’t calm down. We will keep you posted to Squeakers progress regarding his defensiveness.

He doesn’t really play with toys but rather has played with his foster mom – little games of tickling and bouncing about. He seems to get very upset when he’s crated and realizes that it’s not just for a nap or time out, but rather because his “pack” is leaving the house without him. He barks and barks and his foster mom says it feels like he’s protesting and throwing a tantrum. Squeakers wants to be around his foster family and won’t leave the room unless they do, he follows and is a bit clingy. This is something that we notice with any dog that hasn’t had a “home” in a little while, they grab on and hold tightly for a little bit. Once they feel secure enough, they begin to relax. We hope Squeakers learns to relax and feel assured that his fosters aren’t going to leave and never come back.

Squeakers knows some basic commands and overall is a very good boy, but he does try to bolt out the door. Whoever adopts Squeakers will have to make sure they are always careful when leaving a house as Mr. Squeakers may just dart right out.

Overall, he’s adjusting well and having a good time with his foster family.

Mr Squeakers was surrendered to NYCSR as his family was moving and they could not bring him with them. Squeakers is about 15lbs- he’s a very small little guy. He was born in December of 2006, so he’s a young dog with lots of love and laughter to share.

He’s up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He will be neutered as well. Squeakers loves people, dogs and cats! At the dog run he loves to meet every dog that comes in and play with all of them- big or small. He also loves cats and knows when to back off when other animals don’t want to play.

In foster care, Chase is working on his leash training and crate training. Thankfully he’s very affectionate with his humans and is happy to please. He is a digger and runner so he needs to be supervised when playing outside at all times. Check back on more on Mr Squeakers!
