11/30 Update for Chase

Chase is looking good, his fur is becoming softer and thicker. He was chewing one his paws and his foster mom took him to vet. It ended up being some sort of allergic reaction and now it’s gone. We’re not sure what he was allergic to, but he’s fine now.

He is very sweet and loves people and dogs. Chase is very hyper and needs to be doing something almost all the time, he only seems to relax if he’s alone. As soon as a person is around him, he is up and active. He seems to find it difficult to relax when people are around although you can occasionally get into a petting session with him.

Chase is also very smart. If he wants to go for a walk, he will find his leash, carry it to his foster mom and drop it in front of her. When his water bowl is empty he will pick it up and also bring it to her. The bowl is kind of heavy too but he still manages to get it in his mouth. However, he does not seem to have been around a lot of dogs and doesn’t know how to read their body language and signals. He has a friend in the house, Cuebee, and they get along but often times Chase stresses out the other dog. They have argued a few times and doesn’t understand when Cuebee growls at him. Chase wants to play with her but she doesn’t seem to want to, his energy may be too high for her to deal with.

Chase doesn’t try to bolt out the front door as often as he used to and he sits and waits for his dinner. He also knows how to give paw and lay down. He will protest when he’s placed into his crate but quiets down if he doesn’t see or hear anyone. The moment he knows someone is home or walking around he will start barking again.

His foster mom told us

He would make a great dog for someone with a playful dog or a ton of time to walk him or play games outside with him. He is very accepting to affection. He absolutely needs a home with a dog that likes to play, or with someone that can take him somewhere to let him run loose in a very well contained area. He needs someone there to play with him when he is loose while running. I really think it should be a dog. I will play with him often but then he will ignore me and want to play with a dog… and unfortunately, I’m not a dog :)

Chase likes to garden

Chase loves being outside. He’s a fun loving dog that has a lot of energy. We recently learned that he also loves to garden. His foster family sent us this pic:

Update on Chase 10/26

Chase has been settling into his foster home and we recently got an update on how he’s doing. Overall he’s a got a great personality but he does need to learn some boundaries which his foster family is trying to do with him. Chase is a really sweet dog. He made himself at home right away.

His foster mom can check his teeth, hold onto him tightly so that he would not escape, and pick him up. He doesn’t try to get away or growl. She said sometimes he has a blank stare about him but it makes him look very cute and silly.

He is friendly with the other shiba in the house, Cuebee, and likes to chase the cat, KC. When Chase has cornered the cat, he doesn’t hurt it. It’s a game and as long as he goes to a home that has a cat who can stand up for itself, there wouldn’t be any reason to be nervous. Aside from getting along well with other animals, he is also extremely friendly with people and older children. He is making great friends with his foster mom’s 16 yr old daughter and loves to play with her.

Sometimes Chase does some mischievous things like tries to dig through the garbage can hoping to find some good food and tries to steal things from the table or counter. He also still tries to bolt out the door.
He doesn’t seem to destroy furniture and is quite content to look out the window and watch the world go by. When he’s outside he is interested in the birds and squirrels but doesn’t try to chase them.

Chase is an active dog with a lot of energy and would need a home that had a lot of time for an active dog. If someone was a jogger, Chase might be the perfect jogging partner. He does love to play outside and loves to be petted. He’s learning how to shake and to be patient and not push his way out the door when it’s time for a walk.

Introducing Chase

Chase came to us at the end of September. We don’t know much about him but he looks to be about 5 yrs old and is a neutered male Shiba. He was left at PetSmart. We guess his owners were no longer able to care for him and hoped that someone at the store would have a network to reach out to help their dog get a new home.

He’s a sweet boy but is a door bolter. He’s already tried a few times to escape, perhaps he is named Chase for a reason! We think he probably thinks it is a game, “Come on, come Chase ME!”

Keep checking back to learn more about Chase.
