Prince Update 9/5/08

Prince’s foster mom gave us a quick update on his progress with other dogs. She said:

Prince’s really mellowed out, he likes to make himself comfortable on the loveseat with Akira and they both of them enjoy short naps throughout the day and playing in the dog park. Prince is still a bit of a mamas boy and prefers to sit by me at the park, but he has been playing with Akira and other dogs every now and then.

He’s learning how to fetch and loves to play with the ball, as long as I’m playing with him (rolling it around the ground with my feet and kicking it for him to fetch from short distances). He is great in the apartment by himself and gets a little spoiled every now and then by being allowed to sleep with Akira on her bed (and even sometimes my bed).

Prince has adjusted very well and is continuing to become a perfect gentleman in preparation for his forever home!

Prince Update

Prince is doing very well, and his foster parent described him as wonderful. He is a sweet dog and warms up quickly to people. He does get nervous if someone approaches him too fast and is too forceful when he first meets them.

He also can be a bit nippy but it seems to be a reaction to how someone approaches him. If he talked to in a calm and gentle manner, he relaxes and will let you pet him. He also had a bath recently and he was great! He tried to jump out a few times but with some easy talking-to he calmed right down. He doesn’t seem to be afraid of the water.

Prince has also gotten used to go to the dog park and playing with other dogs. He’s learning how to interact positively and has learned how to be the perfect pet… now to find his forever home!

Prince Update

Prince’s foster mom Molly told us that Prince is a big sweet baby of a shiba. He needs an owner who is both patient and persistent. He is very smart and active and needs an owner who will keep him busy.

Prince’s training is coming along, his manners are improving and he’s getting better every day. He will do anything for a hotdog! All you have to do is ask.

He’s also very affectionate and likes to sit next to her for some pets. Molly has reported that the best home in her opinion would be one with a female dog and no children under 15. He also needs an active family who will take the time to reinforce his obedience training after adoption.

From his foster mom:

I feel he would be a wonderful candidate for earning an AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. All Prince wants in the world is to be correct and to be loved. Someone who can give him that will be the perfect match.

Latest news on Prince

Prince has recently moved to a new foster home. So far things are going well. He’s learning to not snap and is not as cautious around people in the house; he’s learning to relax and adjust to being in a home. He’s learning better manners everyday and has playtime so it helps relieve his stress levels.

We still do not recommend he go to a home that has a male dog or small children. But he’s very friendly, happy, and curious of people now instead of being fearful. He has also improved with his manners and training.

Prince is learning new commands such as stay, down, and how to walk with a loose leash… he’s easily distracted though and may pull. However, he seems to be food driven and has a taste for cheese and peanut butter.

Introducing Prince

Prince is a 3 year old big boy. He is tall and at least 35 lbs. He was
surrendered to the rescue when his original family decided to have a
baby. He is a little nervous around new situations and cautious around
strangers. Since his old home is all he knew, it is taking him a
little while to get used to all the changes in his life. He loves to
be outside and is thrilled to go for walks. He is very handsome and
has a lovely coat. Once he gets to know you he really loves to be
petted. He will go to the trouble of forcing your hand on his head if
you are ignoring him. He is uncertain about other dogs and at this
time we feel he would do best an an only dog.
