Welcome Tiki! Tiki is, as you can see, a very cute red boy who is just under 2 years old. He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, housebroken, leash trained and crate trained.
Tiki was surrendered to us by his former owners as he was exhibiting food aggression towards family members. They came to us for help in placing him in the right environment for training and then in finding the perfect forever home.
Foster Mom Molly says that he’s a ‘…happy, outgoing, very friendly…’ boy. Tiki is good with other dogs in the home and seems curious about cats and birds. Tiki also love attention from humans, he is ‘very playful and affectionate. A major cuddler.’ He enjoys playing fetch and playing with stuffed and rope toys.
We are currently working on Tiki’s food aggression towards people. He has been displaying food aggression with only high value foods- not dog food or treats. High value foods for Tiki are human foods and food scraps found on walks, etc. He can become very possessive and protective of these food items and bite. We’ve had much success with our foster dog, Ella, with this issue and are confident that we can expect the same progress with Tiki.
Check back soon for updates on Tiki!

Please keep me posted…we are very interested in Tiki and can provide a real loving home.
Hi Anthony
Thanks so much for your post!
Please check back soon for updates on Tiki’s blog. He will not be available for awhile due to the training we are working on with him. Upon successful improvements with his food aggression, we will then be announced as adoptable.
We suggest that you fill out and submit an application for him. (An application can be downloaded from http://nycshibarescue.org/adopting-a-shiba/ )
We look forward to seeing your application!
Poor baby- I hate to see dogs abandoned for things like this. At least he was given to you guys and with some good training, this aggression with people food can be overcome.
We are VERY interested in rescuing Tiki and providing him with a loving home
Hi Erin,
Tiki isn’t available for adoption (he’s already been rescued, he needs to be adopted) yet. When we feel like his training has been successful enough for him to transition to a forever home, then he will be available.
Please feel free to complete an adoption application in the meantime though! We hope we’ll be looking for his forever home in a few months (or less).
Jenna
I’ve filled out the M-A application Looking forward to making Tiki a happy home
Hi, I have sent in an application and was interested in Tiki. I was wondering if you know if he came from a breeder or a pet store? Also, what is his weight. ?
Thank you, Anthony
