This beautiful black & tan boy is Toby. Toby is about 4 years old, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped. Toby was surrendered by his owners to a shelter in Southern NJ but they gave very little information about him. After his initial vet check at the shelter, they found that he was heartworm positive. Being a municipal shelter, they were not a position to treat him. They contacted us and we brought him into NYCSR’s foster program.
Toby was admitted to West Hills Animal Hospital, who did an amazing job previously with our foster Shiba, Molly. There, Toby was diagnosed with Stage One Heartworm Disease, which is the lowest level of heartworm infestation and is highly treatable. Toby was administered treatment, did extremely well and is expected to make a full recovery. He suffered no side effects and was released into an NYCSR foster home after a 3-day stay, but not before winning the hearts of the vets and staff at West Hills; he was a perfect guest!
Toby is a sweet, calm and very affectionate. He’s good with other dogs and loves to lounge with his humans. He’s crate and leash trained and housebroken. He’s also great in the car. Check back for more info on this special boy!

So does Toby not like to play at all with dogs, or just not like dogs that are high energy all the time? We have two Shiba Inus that sort of tire each other out if they get that ‘burst’ of energy. One is almost a year old and the other is a year and 1/2.
Is toby still available for adoption?
what is it that he does not like about active dogs?
