Responsible Dog Ownership Day, NYC 2007

Shibas Shine at Responsible Dog Ownership Day

NYC Shiba Rescue, Inc. (NYCSR) staffed a “Meet the Breed” table at the AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day in New York City’s Madison Square Park on September 15, 2007. AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day highlights the AKC programs and services that support responsible dog ownership and this year marked the first time the Shiba Inu breed has been represented at the flagship event in New York City. This was the largest Meet the Breeds ever with 50 breeds represented to the approximately 7,500 people in attendance in NYC, plus the millions of dog lovers and potential pet owners reached through extensive media coverage.

Jenna Gates, NYCSR’s President & Founder, and Zennia Barahona, Foster Program Director, showed off three awesome Shibas* who were sweet enough to deal with strangers crowding around and petting them for four hours straight. Jenna & Zennia also handed out over 100 Shiba Inu brochures, talked to countless people about the breed, and recruited a few new volunteers for NYCSR.

Meet the Shibas

In addition to rescuing and finding homes for Shiba Inu and Shiba Inu mixed-breed dogs, NYSCR makes it a priority to educate members of the public about responsible dog ownership and specifically about the Shiba Inu breed. We look forward to attending more events like Responsible Dog Ownership Day.

*Shibas in attendance were Snickers (bred by Sandra Krupski) and Benno & Lily (both bred by Laura Perkinson).
